Who could join us ?

All sorts of people can sing with us:-
• If you sing in the shower.
• If you have no previous experience of singing in choirs.
• You you are looking for a change in the choirs you attend - or want to add more of a mix of contemporary, musicals and classical singing to your experiences.
• If you are looking for a new hobby - and maybe never thought about singing before.
• If you are a qualified &/or experienced musician.
  

What happens when you come along...

You will sing with us in rehearsals for about five-weeks to see if we are mutually suited to each other. You'll be given copies of the music and you'll sit in a section of the chorus suited to your voice. You'll be introduced to your section leader and the people around you.

After five weeks, if you'd like to join us, you will have a brief audition with our musical director, Rod Starr (click to read more) .

The whole process is friendly and informal ... we want you to join us! But if it helps you feel more comfortable, why not bring a friend or two along with you? You could be singing in our next concert on Saturday, 28th June at St Peter's Church, Playfair Rd, Southsea at 7:30PM. We'll be joined by St Peter's Songbirds to help celebrate the church's 125th anniversary.

What is an audition?

After singing with us for five weeks we hope that you will decide to stay with us. To do this you will meet with our musical director, Rod Starr, for an audition.

The audition is only about 5 to 10 minutes long. Rod will check your vocal range (how high and how low you can sing), play some tunes and ask you to sing them or ask you to sing some scales (music notes that rise up and then come down again). This helps Rod ... and you ... determine which section of the chorus best suits your voice.

If everything goes well with the audition you'll be invited to join us as a full member. There is a yearly membership fee (currently £50 a year), payable in 2 instalments by the end of July and by Christmas. This fee covers costs such as hiring our rehearsal rooms & providing you with music for each concert. You'll get to sing in our concerts and come to our social functions. We'll even sing to you if your your birthday occurs during a rehearsal week!

Disabled access?

We provide disabled access and try to accommodate anyone interested in singing with us. A disability need not prevent you from singing with us. Currently we have six members who have disabilities.
